| Alchemy... It's a science, which is governed by the rule of equal exchange. Nothing can be made from nothing. It must have equal value. Though, there seem to be ways that bypass this... Philosopher stones. There are very few who know how to actually make one, which is why they are so rare. And even if you did find someone who knew about them, they probably wouldn't tell you the dark secrets. Though there are rumored Philosopher stones in the world. Specifically, the four "Blood Crystals." They are hidden in some of the most dangerous spots of the world, and legend says they are the most powerful of the stones. Unlike most other stones, however, they aren't spherical in shape... more crystal-like in appearance, hence the name crystal.
...But what about the blood part? Is it simply because they are red in coloration, or is it... more?
Philosopher stones have been used in the creation of Homonculi; artificial humans. This may be the reason they are near invincible and appear to be much stronger. They also seem to become corrupted, and look for more power... They search for the Blood Crystals.
Some Alchemists also look for them, using their Transmutation Circles as aid. Maybe they're seeking them for power, maybe to destroy them... It is unknown. The State Alchemists, they are like the "police force," except more elite, using Alchemy. Some of them investigate the Philosopher stones too...
